Artist Statement
I was inspired by the natural history of the area where the Salish once gathered plant material to produce woven goods for utilitarian use and trading. My art concept serves to honor the fading craft of woven goods such as basketry (as illustrated in this work), cradles, mats, food prepration vessels, clothing, and ceremonial attire, to name a few.
The work also calls attention to the sustainable approach the Salish incorporated in working with environmental resources such as cedar and other plant material.
